Group Visits represent an innovative approach to Well Child Check Ups and are gaining popularity among Pediatricians and their patients across the country. Drs. Kribbs and Satterwhite are pioneering Group Visits in Winston-Salem.
A typical Great Start Group includes three to eight babies of the same age and their parent(s). Each baby is weighed, measured and examined. The examination is followed by a group discussion on topics commonly covered in a well baby check up (such as feeding, elimination, sleep, development, and behavior, just to name a few). Because these topics are pertinent to all babies, a group discussion led by the Pediatrician allows for more in depth exploration of these important subjects.
The advantages of participating in Group Visits include:
(1) More time with the doctor at well child visits - most group visits last one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes.
(2) Opportunity to learn from other parents - discussing questions as a group can be a great way to learn!
(3) A sense of community for new parents - especially nice for parents without extended family nearby.
Parents who participate in Great Start Groups have a very high level of satisfaction with the visits.
