Emily Smith, MD
I was born in Winston Salem, but spent most of my childhood growing up in Hickory, NC. I attended Appalachian State University for college (where I met my wonderful husband, Lee). After college I moved to the other side of the state and attended East Carolina University for medical school. Lee and I were married at the end of medical school, and we began our first adventure together by moving to Nashville, TN where I did my pediatric training at Vanderbilt. There we had our baby girl, Nora! We loved Nashville, but always knew that North Carolina was home. We moved back after I finished residency, and we are so excited to now be in Winston Salem. For fun, we love to travel, cook, spend time with our families, and attend Appalachian football games!
I decided to become a doctor in college, and from the beginning I knew I wanted to do primary care (I love having continuity of care, and I love getting to know families). My favorite days in medical school were during my pediatric rotations- there was no doubt that pediatrics was the best fit for me. I am so thankful to have such a rewarding job!
