Personal Biography

I'm a native North Carolinian, and I'm proud to call the Triad home. I was born in Winston Salem (at Forsyth Hospital!) and grew up in Greensboro, where my family moved when I was 3. My journey to pediatrics started as a young child. I started my career doctoring my stuffed animals and even wrote in a third grade assignment that I would grow up to be a pediatrician. I learned early on that I loved working with children, and I had a natural calling towards medicine.

I received my undergraduate degree in English from Wake Forest University and later moved across town to attend Wake Forest University School of Medicine. One week after graduating from medical school in 2008, I married my longtime high school sweetheart and medical school classmate, David. We moved to Nashville for residency at Vanderbilt University, where we enjoyed exploring all that the Music City has to offer. I completed my residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in 2011. We returned to Winston Salem in July 2011 for David to begin his fellowship in gastroenterology. He is now a practicing gastroenterologist in town.

I continue my pediatrics education on a daily basis at home with our three boys. David and I are enjoying the wild ride of parenting, which keeps us quite busy these days. We love to travel and both have a passion for international medical mission work, which we hope to revisit once the boys are older. Otherwise, you can often find us cooking (and eating!), hiking, reading, running, and enjoying the outdoors.

One of my favorite things about pediatrics is getting to know children and their families. I love watching families grow, helping children move through various developmental stages, and learning about each child's special interests. From there, I can better partner with parents and children to help make the best decisions for healthy living.
