Dr. Hoyle's special interest in weight management for overweight children and adolescents originates from her own challenges with maintaining a healthy lifestyle for herself and her family.  For more about Dr. Hoyle's story, visit: http://www.healthyfamilyusa.org/healthy-family-about-us.asp.

Dr. Hoyle is the co-creator of the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health Healthy Family Adolescent Weight Management Program.  For more information about this program, visit www.healthyfamilyusa.org.

Through the Healthy Family Program, Dr. Hoyle has been working with families of overweight adolescents since 2002.   In her Pediatric/Adolescent Weight Management Clinic, Dr. Hoyle uses her experiences to help parents identify areas of concern for their child and prioritize strategies to maximize health. 

When you bring your child to the Pediatric/Adolescent Weight Management Clinic, you can expect Dr Hoyle will...

Obtain history through questionnaires, information from your child's referring physician, and talking with you and your child (together and, in some cases, separately) about...

Your child's weight – including weight in early childhood, recent weight gain, history of dieting, trends in their weight

Your child's eating habits – including typical meals, snacks, school lunch, unusual behavior/attitudes toward food

Your child's exercise habits – including PE participation, sports participation, leisure activities

Your child's health history – including discussion of their weight in connection to asthma, joint pain/fractures, constipation, menstrual irregularity, sleep disturbance

Your child's family history – including discussion of relatives with obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes

Your child's mood/emotional state – including discussion of how s/he feels about his/her body

Your child's social interactions – including discussion about teasing or bullying about their weight

Complete a Physical Examination of your child – including measuring height, weight, and blood pressure

Discuss obtaining blood work, if necessary, to check for thyroid problems, high cholesterol, early signs of diabetes

Recommend the most effective changes your family can make based on your child's evaluation. 

Refer your child to additional specialists, if necessary.

Refer your child to programs appropriate for him/her in our community.
